Almost Forever - A Hanover Falls Novel

Almost Forever (Hanover Falls, #1)Almost Forever by Deborah Raney

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Bryn, wife of firefighter Adam, was working at the homeless shelter, the night it caught on fire and burned to the ground - taking the life of Adam and four other firefighters. As the weeks wear on, and Bryn and the little town she's from tries to recover from that devastating night, Bryn can't remember if she snuffed out the candle in the staff room before she left to play cards with one of the shelter's residents. Has she buried the memory to protect herself?

A heartbreaking story of easily made mistakes and hard to give forgiveness.

Where the Heart Is

Where the Heart IsWhere the Heart Is by Billie Letts

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wonderful quirky, characters - just like most us of know in real life - make this novel worth reading. Novalee Nation, pregnant and abandoned at Walmart by her boyfriend, tries to make the best of her life. Sleeping in Walmart overnight, meeting new friends by day, Novalee carries bravely on, until the night the baby is born and her new, true friends help. While part of this novel is horribly sad, so much focuses on the goodness and kindness of others and don't we want to believe in that goodness?

Last in the series, Above the Line, Kingsbury finishes the story of Keith and Dayne of Jeremiah Productions making the inspirational film, Unlocked, and Andi, Keith's daughter rethinks giving her baby up for adoption. Cody discovers, to his dismay, that his mother is still using drugs and tries to pull away from Bailey, so that it doesn't taint her stardom from playing one of the lead roles in Unlocked.

A Christmas Blizzard

A Christmas BlizzardA Christmas Blizzard by Garrison Keillor

A decidedly different book about Christmas! Laugh-out-loud humor follows James Sparrow, a millionaire (previous life: bank robber)who doesn't like Christmas or winter and who has "pump handle syndrome" - the fear of sticking your tongue on a frozen pump handle or any metal object and never being able to pull it off w/o ripping your tongue! Children of the Flames

Children of the Flames: Dr. Josef Mengele and the Untold Story of the Twins of AuschwitzChildren of the Flames: Dr. Josef Mengele and the Untold Story of the Twins of Auschwitz by Lucette Matalon Lagnado

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Difficult to read and understand the depth of the horror twin siblings had to face in Auschwitz at the hand of Dr Josef Mengele. Written in 1991, by the widow of one of the Auschwitz twins, Alex Dekel, and collaborated on with Lucette Lagnado, Children of the Flames is an extremely moving book about the surviving twins and the Angel of Death who destroyed their families and made them suffer horrendous experiments.

A Chesapeake Shores Christmas

A Chesapeake Shores ChristmasA Chesapeake Shores Christmas by Sherryl Woods

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another little quick-read Christmas fiction just in time for the holidays. Sherryl Woods continues her O'Brian series with Megan & Mick ready to tie the knot on New Year's Eve, but of course a little something arrives to throw the whole family and marriage plans in turmoil. This was my first read about the O'Brians, so I had a bit of trouble with the background of the characters, although Woods does fill in a bit with previous circumstances. A Long Time Gone.....

Hmmm, I've been neglectful again to my blog - after the excitement of Twitter and tweeting for our library and myself - I then let Facebook suck me into it's many wonders and delights of staying in touch with old friends and posting comments w/o the lasso of 140 characters. Ahhh, so many wonderful things to do on the internet - what a shame we have to feed our children and take a shower, lol!!

Actually, I am reworking my lesson plan for my library computer class - Get Your Own Blog, and had to update screenshots and text, for Blogger had changed a wee bit since the last time I posted. Enough to throw out the old handouts and reprint anew.

Til the next time we meet again Blogger.
